Young Artists

Since 2003 we have auditioned about 1,000 singers, 100 of whom have become Les Azuriales Young Artist alumni of one of our programmes.

Principally the route to becoming a Les Azuriales Young Artist was through our summer Programme  which was held annually in August in the South of France.  This has comprised  a competition, a masterclass and an opera (or a reduced version) from scratch. Sadly 2019 was our last season.

We will continue to support young artists, principally our alumni, but others may contact us if they need support for a particular project. Although most of our alumni are singers, we are interested in supporting anyone involved in creating opera. Indeed we have helped young composers, directors, set and costume designers etc. See the details below of our continuing activities.

Our Young Artist Programme 2003-2019

The distinguished  givers of our public Masterclasses and private workshops have included: Lucy Arner, Sally Burgess, Peter Coleman-Wright, Michèle Crider, Sarah Jane Davies, Peter Kazaras, Ljuba Kazarnovskaya, Elaine KiddPeter Lockwood, Martin Lloyd-Evans, Emanuele Moris, Dennis O'Neill CBE, Pedro Ribeiro, Brindley Sherratt and Alessandro Talevi.

A number of our artists have been winners or finalists of major competitions, including the Montserrat Caballé Prize, the Kathleen Ferrier Awards, the Stella Maris awards and Cardiff Singer of the World.

Eight of our alumni have joined the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artists programme, some solely because of our introduction. Others have been to the National Opera Studio (UK), Vienna State Opera and other prestigious programmes.
