Mark's 2.6km Bike Ride

Raised £9,500 to support young singers in the UK and South Africa affected by Covid

Mark Holford, one of our trustees,  set a "26" target of 2.6 kilometres on his exercise bike. You might think that this was not very ambitious but for someone who had recently had a knee replacement it was a long way – in fact it was twice as far as he had been before. We are way past his target of £4,000 for our charity, Les Azuriales Opera Trust, to support young opera singers affected by Covid.

In the UK singers are all self-employed and some of whom are not entitled to government support: they are struggling to pay the rent etc.. A number of our alumni have asked us to help them. In addition for many years Les Azuriales has supported Voices of South Africa, founded by one of our alumni. It runs a Young Artist programme in Cape Town. Currently the major problem for young singers in South Africa is that many are struggling to buy food. So some of the money raised will go to support Voices of South Africa’s food programme.

The response has been heart-warming and we now hope to raise £10,000. If you are able, please donate

We and all the young singers who we help will be hugely grateful.
