Les Azuriales Ozone Young Artists Masterclass & Competition
Our Young Singers' Competition was started in 2003 to fulfil one of the Festival's core objectives: namely, to assist and promote young singers at the start of their careers. This has developed into the extensive Les Azuriales Ozone Young Artists Programme. This development is thanks to the generosity of Linda Fenwick, the CEO of Ozone, whose enthusiasm and personal involvement in the Programme has been key to its success.
8-10 singers are chosen and invited to the South of France to participate in the Programme.
Along with rehearsals for the competition concert, the singers have two days of private masterclasses and language coaching . This culminates in a public masterclass given by a distinguished artist.
The singers then perform in the Competition Concert, during which the contestants are evaluated by a jury of distinguished judges. At the end of the evening, the judges' decisions are announced and prizes are awarded. This year sees a significant increase in value of the prizes:
- First Prize – 5,000 Euros
- Second Prize -2,500 Euros
- Junior (for 26 or under) Prixe -1,000 euros
There is a feedback session given by the judge. On the following morning.
All the finalists are encouraged to join our Alumni network. They can also seek support from Les Azuriales – see Les Azuriales Scholarships and Les Azuriales Bursaries. In addition there will be a winners' concert in London on a date during the early part of the year following the Competition.
A number of artists have gone on to join young artists programmes such as the Jette Parker Young Artists programme at the Royal Opera House and to win of some of Europe’s leading singing competitions, notably the
Kathleen Ferrier Prize and the
Montserrat Caballe Prize.
