Adelheid Wette
Adelheid Wette, Humperdinck's sister, wrote the libretto based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, and asked him to set it to music as an entertainment for her children. Later they turned it into a full scale opera.
Richard Strauss was the assistant conductor at the the première.
